Lanark Golf Course. Par 70, SSS 71
Visitors
to Lanark are often surprised to find a golf course
of such high quality, with it's sandy links and
moorland turf, so far inland. Since 1851, when the
course had 6 holes and 21 members, through the initial
definition of the 18-hole course by Tom Morris and
it's subsequent refinement by James Braid, Lanark
has retained it's own unique golfing character.
Lanark
is never an easy course, despite the excellent condition
of it's greens and fairways. Good players can shine
at Lanark however, as we saw when Sam Torrance,
of Ryder cup fame, carded a 64 here. When the rough
is at it's summer height, and the wind blows, scores
like that are just a golfer's dream.
