The 6428 yard, par 70 layout provides a rewarding challenge to golfers of all abilities and has been host to the R&A on 11 occasions as a regional pre-qualifying venue for the Open Championship. The course has hosted the British Girls’ Championship in 2005, the Scottish Girls’ Championship in 2009, the Scottish Youth Championship in 2013. It is also a frequent PGA Tartan Tour venue as well as hosting the Girls’ Home Internationals in 2015 and the Scottish Boys’ Stoke Play Championships in 2016.
The course is built on a substrate of glacial sands, providing classic moorland fairways which drain freely and are playable all year. The layout is tough but fair. It is an ideal length and difficulty to challenge the best golfers, yet also hugely rewarding for the average player, not least because of the sheer pleasure of playing a great course in a glorious natural moorland setting surrounded by inspirational scenery.
